100, 200 Level Students to Compete on Manufacturing, Sustainable Local Content Development

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced the opening of entries for the 10th edition of its Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition, inviting undergraduate students in 100 and 200 levels from universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across Nigeria to submit essays on strengthening local content development.
The Board disclosed that the competition will officially open for submissions on August 15, with this year’s essay focusing on the theme, “Promoting Manufacturing for Sustainable Local Content Development.” The competition challenges participants to explore how Nigeria can strengthen its local manufacturing capacity to drive economic growth, create jobs and reduce dependence on imports within the energy sector.
According to a press statement signed by the General Manager, Corporate Communications Division, Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, the competition has become a flagship initiative of the Board, providing young Nigerians with an opportunity to contribute innovative ideas that can support the country’s industrialisation and energy development agenda.
The statement explained that the annual essay competition goes beyond rewarding academic excellence, serving as a platform for nurturing critical thinking, research and innovation among students. It noted that participants are encouraged to develop practical solutions to national challenges while broadening their understanding of local content development.
The Board further stated that the initiative is aimed at exposing students to real-life policy issues in the oil and gas industry and equipping them with the knowledge and competencies required to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s energy future.
Also speaking on the competition, the Managing Director and Project Consultant, Eyinimi Omorozi, said the initiative is specifically designed to strengthen students’ research capabilities while inspiring them to develop the skills needed to contribute effectively to the nation’s energy industry.
Omorozi urged eligible students to take advantage of the opportunity by preparing well-researched essays that demonstrate originality, creativity and practical recommendations for enhancing local manufacturing and sustainable local content development.
Interested students are expected to submit their entries through the dedicated competition portal once applications open on August 15.
The competition will culminate in an award ceremony scheduled for October 22 at the NCDMB headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where outstanding participants will be honoured for their intellectual contributions and innovative ideas.
Over the years, the NCDMB Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition has evolved into one of Nigeria’s foremost academic initiatives, providing a platform for young scholars to engage with critical national development issues while proposing practical solutions that promote economic resilience, industrial growth and the advancement of Nigerian content in the energy sector.
