Programme targets girls, young women aged 15–22 who could not complete secondary education

The Kwara State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project has commenced preparations to enrol 20,000 learners under the second cohort of its Alternative Education Subcomponent, also known as the Second Chance Education programme.
The project is undertaking an identification, validation and enrolment exercise across Kwara State as part of efforts to provide education and skills development opportunities for girls and young women who are out of school.
The Project Coordinator, Adeshina Salami, disclosed this during the training of enumerators held at the GRA Project Office in Ilorin.
Salami highlighted the commitment of the Kwara State Government to improving access to education, commending Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his passion and commitment towards the development of the education sector in the state.
He explained that the Alternative Education Subcomponent was designed to provide opportunities for girls and young women who are no longer in school to acquire relevant educational and vocational skills.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of the Kwara State Agency for Mass Education, Mallam Yusuf Saka, assured the AGILE Project of the Agency’s full support towards the successful implementation of the programme.
He said the Agency was ready to collaborate with the project to ensure that the targeted beneficiaries were identified and enrolled across the state.
The Alternative Education Subcomponent Lead, Mrs Omolola Ayanshola, said the second cohort was targeting 20,000 learners across Kwara State.
According to her, the programme is designed for girls and young women between the ages of 15 and 22 who were unable to complete their secondary education.
She said beneficiaries would be equipped with literacy, numeracy, digital and vocational skills to enable them improve their knowledge, acquire useful competencies and enhance their prospects for a better future.
Ayanshola explained that the second cohort would build on the achievements of the first cohort, which provided training for 1,200 learners across the state.
She urged members of the public to take advantage of the programme by identifying and encouraging eligible girls and young women within their families, neighbourhoods and communities to register.
“This is more than an enrolment exercise, it is a call to every Kwaran to look within their families, neighbourhoods, and communities and identify girls and young women who deserve another chance at education.
“We are ready to receive twenty thousand learners statewide, and we need parents, guardians, community leaders, and well-meaning citizens to help us reach them,” she said.
The programme is expected to provide beneficiaries with a second opportunity to acquire education and practical skills after dropping out of school, while also supporting efforts to improve their future economic and social prospects.
The AGILE Project therefore called on parents, guardians, community leaders and other stakeholders to support the identification and enrolment of eligible beneficiaries.
Interested eligible members of the public have been advised to visit any government Mass Literacy Centre nearest to them to register for the programme.
Registration is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 10, 2026.
