Oshoba says record revenue reflects improved compliance, trade facilitation, digitalisation, urges stakeholders to support legitimate trade

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has generated a record ₦28.102 billion in revenue within 24 hours, marking the highest single-day revenue collection in the history of the Command.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, by Chief Superintendent of Customs Isah Sulaiman, Customs Public Relations Officer, Apapa Area Command, for the Customs Area Controller. The revenue was generated on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The new record of ₦28,102,000,914.61 surpassed the Command’s previous single-day record of ₦20.1 billion, achieved in September 2025, shortly after the assumption of office of the present Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba.
The latest feat comes barely weeks after the Apapa Area Command recorded an unprecedented ₦323 billion monthly revenue collection in July 2026, underscoring what the Command described as the sustained impact of reforms, improved compliance, enhanced trade facilitation, intelligence-driven interventions and greater efficiency in digital Customs processes.
Reacting to the development, Comptroller Oshoba said the achievement should not be viewed merely as a revenue figure or a new record, but as an indication of the contribution of the Nigeria Customs Service to the economic wellbeing of Nigerians.
According to him, revenue generated by the Service forms part of government resources used to finance public priorities, including infrastructure, security, education, healthcare and other essential services that directly affect the lives of citizens.
Oshoba dedicated the milestone to the Government and people of Nigeria, while commending the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, and the management team of the Service for their continued support for modernisation, automation and reforms designed to make Customs operations more efficient, transparent and business-friendly.
The Customs Area Controller also acknowledged the cooperation of compliant importers, exporters, licensed Customs agents and other stakeholders, as well as patriotic Nigerians who have provided actionable intelligence that contributed to the achievement.
He stressed that every compliant transaction contributes to national development, urging stakeholders to continue supporting legitimate trade.
Oshoba noted that a stronger revenue base provides the government with greater capacity to respond to the needs of the people, fund development priorities and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
He, however, charged officers and men of the Apapa Area Command not to become complacent following the latest achievement, stressing that the record should be regarded as a greater responsibility to do more.
The Customs Area Controller emphasised that revenue collection must go hand in hand with trade facilitation, professionalism, transparency and respect for stakeholders.
He further directed personnel of the Command to ensure that legitimate disputes are resolved promptly and that Customs procedures do not unnecessarily hinder lawful businesses operating within the port environment.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the momentum through enhanced revenue generation, improved trade facilitation, professionalism and stronger collaboration with stakeholders.
The Apapa Area Command said it would continue to pursue its mandate with the understanding that every legitimate revenue collected strengthens the government’s capacity to deliver on its development priorities and improve the lives of Nigerians.
