The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has demonstrated his commitment to strengthening community security by donating ₦100 million and a Toyota Hilux vehicle to the Iru-Ekun Security Network, a security outfit established by Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

The donation was announced during a meeting between the foremost traditional ruler and Igboho at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, where the monarch reaffirmed the need for stronger community participation in tackling insecurity across the South-West.
According to the Ooni’s spokesperson, the monarch had initially planned to support the Iru-Ekun Security Network with ₦10 million. However, while writing the cheque, he unexpectedly increased the donation tenfold, issuing a cheque for ₦100 million instead.
In addition to the financial support, the Ooni presented a Toyota Hilux vehicle to enhance the mobility and operational effectiveness of the security outfit.

The monarch commended the establishment of the Iru-Ekun Security Network, describing security as a collective responsibility that requires the active involvement of traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders. He urged members of the outfit to remain disciplined, professional and law-abiding while working in collaboration with conventional security agencies to protect lives and property.
Responding, Sunday Igboho expressed profound appreciation to the Ooni for what he described as an unprecedented gesture of support. He said the donation would significantly strengthen the operational capacity of the Iru-Ekun Security Network in combating kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes threatening communities across the South-West.
He assured the monarch that the funds and the Hilux vehicle would be judiciously utilised to improve the outfit’s operations and reaffirmed its commitment to complementing the efforts of security agencies in safeguarding lives and property.
The Ooni’s gesture has attracted widespread attention, with many observers describing it as a significant boost to community-driven security initiatives and a strong endorsement of grassroots efforts to address the growing security challenges facing the South-West.
