The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, has launched a 12-month technical training programme for 60 young Nigerians to strengthen local expertise and address critical skills gaps in the oil and gas industry.

The programme, launched at Nigeria Machine Tools Limited in Osogbo, Osun State, is designed to equip participants with specialised knowledge and practical skills in oil and gas engineering, manufacturing and other essential technical fields.
The initiative is being implemented under the Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development (NC HCD) Training Programme for Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited’s EPU Phase 2 Gas Development Project.
The curriculum covers engineering design, fitter machining, conventional machine tool operations, programming, computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), electrical and mechanical maintenance, as well as document control.
The 12-month programme comprises six months of intensive classroom instruction and six months of supervised on-the-job training in reputable companies, providing participants with opportunities to acquire practical industry experience.
Graduates are expected to earn internationally recognised certifications upon successful completion of the programme.

Speaking at the official launch, the NCDMB Director of Capacity Building, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to bridging technical skills gaps in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and preparing more Nigerians for meaningful participation across the sector’s value chain.
Bamidele, who was represented by the Assistant Manager, Human Capacity Development, Mr. Tare Bufazi, described the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at addressing manpower shortages and developing a skilled workforce capable of meeting the industry’s technical requirements.
He disclosed that the 60 beneficiaries comprise 33 graduates and 27 vocational trainees who would receive specialised training tailored to industry needs.
According to him, the Board’s mandate goes beyond promoting local participation in the oil and gas industry to building the technical capabilities required to sustain its growth and development.
He stressed that human capacity development remains central to strengthening Nigerian content, creating employment opportunities and advancing the Federal Government’s industrialisation agenda.
Bamidele urged the trainees to approach the programme with discipline, dedication and commitment, noting that the opportunity offers more than academic certificates.
He explained that the combination of classroom learning and practical experience would help participants develop the competence and professional skills needed to build sustainable careers in the oil and gas industry.
The NCDMB director also acknowledged the contributions of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Seflam SGL and Nigeria Machine Tools Limited to the successful implementation of the initiative.

Speaking on behalf of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, the company’s Interface and Integration Manager for the NLNG Supply Project, Mr. Richard Oyiborhor, reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing Nigerian talent and strengthening local capabilities.
Oyiborhor commended the NCDMB for its leadership in advancing Nigerian content development, describing the collaboration with Seflam SGL and Nigeria Machine Tools as an important step towards developing the country’s industrial workforce.
He noted that initiatives of this nature would help strengthen the technical capacity of Nigerians and support the development of a workforce equipped to meet the demands of the oil and gas sector.
In her remarks, Seflam SGL’s Senior Manager, Business Interface, Mrs. Bisola Agboluaje, congratulated the beneficiaries and traced the programme’s origins to 2024, when the NCDMB approved the training plans.
She described the initiative as a forward-looking investment in Nigeria’s technical talent pool, emphasising the importance of developing skilled professionals to support the country’s industrial and energy sectors.
Agboluaje’s remarks highlighted the long-term value of sustained investment in technical training and the need to prepare young Nigerians for opportunities in specialised areas of the oil and gas industry.
Also speaking, the Chief Operating Officer of Nigeria Machine Tools Limited, Ms. Obehi Ojeagha, welcomed the trainees and commended the organisations involved in the programme.
Ojeagha highlighted the institution’s 46-year history of supporting Nigeria’s industrial development and expressed confidence that the participants would acquire the technical skills, discipline and practical experience required to contribute meaningfully to the oil and gas sector.
She noted that the training would provide the beneficiaries with an opportunity to develop their capabilities in a professional environment while preparing them for future responsibilities in the industry.
The collaboration between the NCDMB, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Seflam SGL and Nigeria Machine Tools Limited underscores the importance of partnerships between industry stakeholders and technical training institutions in developing local expertise.
Through the programme, the participating organisations aim to strengthen Nigeria’s human capital base, improve the availability of skilled technical personnel and expand opportunities for young Nigerians to participate in the oil and gas industry.
The initiative also reinforces the role of targeted skills development in promoting Nigerian content, supporting industrial growth and building a workforce capable of meeting the evolving technical requirements of the energy sector.
