The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has honoured the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Human Resource and Development, DCG Tijanni Abe, following his retirement after 35 years of meritorious service to the nation.
The retirement ceremony, held on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, at the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, brought together members of the Service’s Management Team and senior officers to celebrate the long and distinguished career of the retiring officer.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, led the tributes, describing DCG Abe as an officer whose career was defined by faith, calmness, integrity and an enduring commitment to service.
Adeniyi particularly highlighted Abe’s consistent habit of expressing gratitude, describing the quality as a reflection of his character and values throughout his years in the Service.
“You are a man of integrity and integrity pays. May God increase you in wisdom and happiness, and may your years ahead be even more pleasurable. We are all very proud of you, and we wish you well,” the Comptroller-General said.
The CGC also assured the retiring officer that the relationships and bonds established during his years in the Nigeria Customs Service would remain beyond his retirement.
In their separate tributes, senior officers who had worked with DCG Abe described him as a leader who earned the respect of his colleagues not merely because of his rank, but because of his character and humane disposition.
They recalled his courage, humility, sacrifice and kindness, noting that these qualities distinguished him throughout his career and endeared him to officers across the Service.
Several of the officers described DCG Abe as more than a senior colleague, portraying him as a mentor whose conduct and leadership quietly influenced and inspired those who worked around him.
The tributes reflected the impact of his 35 years in the Nigeria Customs Service, with colleagues acknowledging his contributions to the development of the Service and his role in nurturing younger officers.
Responding to the goodwill messages, DCG Abe expressed profound gratitude to the Almighty God for sustaining him throughout his career.
He also thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs and members of the Management Team for their support, confidence and belief in his abilities over the course of his three-and-a-half decades of service.
His response, marked by humility and appreciation, further reflected the qualities colleagues had identified as defining features of his career.
With his retirement, DCG Tijanni Abe brings to a close 35 years of service to the Nigeria Customs Service and the nation, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, professionalism, mentorship and dedication to duty.
