The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Segun Aina, has unveiled an ambitious five-year strategic development agenda aimed at consolidating the Board’s achievements, strengthening public confidence and positioning JAMB as Africa’s most trusted, innovative and accessible assessment and admissions institution.
Speaking on his first day in office, Prof. Aina described his assumption of duty as “a homecoming and a solemn responsibility,” pledging to build on the solid foundation established by his predecessor, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, through innovation, stronger institutional systems and improved service delivery.
Tagged “JAMB 2031: Building Trust, Reducing Trauma,” the development roadmap will run from 2026 to 2031 and is built around what the Registrar described as Project 2:5:7, comprising two strategic objectives, five enduring pillars and seven flagship initiatives designed to transform the Board into a globally respected institution driven by technology, integrity and stakeholder confidence.
According to Prof. Aina, the agenda is anchored on JAMB’s statutory mandate of providing fair, credible, secure and equitable access to tertiary education through transparent registration, credible assessments and merit-based placement of qualified candidates. He reaffirmed his vision of making JAMB Africa’s most trusted, innovative and accessible assessment and admissions institution, stressing that the Board’s credibility must continue to rest on robust institutional systems, enduring values and strategic partnerships rather than individuals.
The Registrar explained that the agenda would be implemented through five enduring pillars carefully designed to strengthen the institution and improve the experience of candidates and other stakeholders. He said the first pillar, Integrity – The Foundation, would strengthen institutional credibility through internationally recognised standards, including ISO 27001 Information Security Certification, independent technology reviews and verifiable systems that guarantee transparency, accountability and public trust.
He added that the second pillar, Service – The Heart, would transform customer experience through responsive service delivery, transparent communication, proactive stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement across all points of interaction with candidates, parents, tertiary institutions and the public.
Prof. Aina said the third pillar, Governance – The Framework, would strengthen institutional governance through enhanced performance monitoring, efficient contract management, operational resilience and improved internal accountability mechanisms to ensure programmes are delivered on schedule and in line with established standards.
He noted that the fourth pillar, Technology – The Enabler, underscores the central role of innovation in JAMB’s future, with plans to consolidate and expand the Board’s in-house technology infrastructure by deploying scalable digital platforms to support mobile services, web applications, printing systems, as well as advanced artificial intelligence and data analytics for decision-making and service delivery.
Recognising that institutional success depends on collaboration, the Registrar said the fifth pillar, Partnerships – The Multiplier, would deepen engagement with financial institutions, including fintech companies, educational organisations and international partners to drive innovation, improve service delivery and expand opportunities for stakeholders.
To translate the agenda into measurable outcomes, Prof. Aina announced seven flagship initiatives to be pursued over the next five years. These include a comprehensive independent technology review of JAMB’s infrastructure, attainment of ISO 27001 Information Security Certification, development of a unified JAMB mobile application, strategic communication and brand repositioning, establishment of a unified customer service platform, implementation of a paperless enterprise-wide digital administration system, and enhanced staff welfare and capacity development.
According to him, the initiatives are designed to make JAMB more responsive, digitally integrated, secure and efficient while improving public confidence in the Board’s operations.
The Registrar stressed that while technology would remain at the heart of JAMB’s transformation, people would remain its greatest asset. He noted that every registration represents the aspirations of a young Nigerian and the sacrifices of parents and guardians, assuring candidates and stakeholders that his administration would continue to simplify processes, improve communication and ensure that fairness, transparency and integrity remain the hallmarks of the Board.
He also called on members of staff to embrace innovation, professionalism and teamwork, reminding them that institutions become great when their people are united by shared values and a common purpose.
As JAMB embarks on a new chapter under his leadership, Prof. Aina reaffirmed his commitment to building stronger institutional systems that would endure beyond individuals, deepen public trust and position the Board as a global benchmark in technology-driven examination and admissions administration.
