NCS commences documentation, fitness, medical assessments for shortlisted candidates in Abuja

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the final phase of its 2025 recruitment exercise, with shortlisted candidates undergoing documentation, physical fitness assessments and medical screening at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.
The two-week exercise, which began on Monday, September 7, 2026, is scheduled to run until Saturday, September 19, 2026, and covers candidates shortlisted for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII), Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
The exercise is being conducted in batches, with candidates categorised alphabetically according to their states of origin to prevent congestion and ensure an orderly screening process.
Addressing candidates at the screening centre, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, congratulated the applicants for reaching the final stage of the recruitment process and urged them to maintain discipline and strictly adhere to the guidelines governing the exercise.
Onyeka stressed that the recruitment process goes beyond physical fitness and other technical requirements, noting that candidates’ character, attitude and professional conduct would also play a significant role in determining those who eventually join the Service.
“On behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, I congratulate you on reaching this stage,” Onyeka said.
He urged the candidates to remain orderly and conduct themselves appropriately throughout the exercise, emphasising that discipline and attitude were critical considerations in the selection process.
According to him, the NCS is working closely with the Customs Police and other relevant units of the Service to ensure the integrity, security and credibility of the recruitment exercise.
He said the collaboration was aimed at ensuring that the screening process was conducted in line with established procedures and without compromise.
Also speaking on the conduct of the exercise, the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Dow Gaura, said administrative innovations and inter-agency collaboration had contributed to the smooth conduct of the screening.
Gaura said the process reflected the policy direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs, particularly in the areas of continuous operational improvement, collaboration and innovation.
“Everything happening here reflects the policy vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, which emphasised continuous operational improvement, collaboration, and innovation,” he stated.
He added that the screening had so far been conducted seamlessly and without major incidents, noting that the exercise had remained hitch-free and had recorded no casualties.
The final phase of the recruitment exercise involves a combination of documentation, physical fitness assessments and medical evaluations designed to determine the suitability of shortlisted candidates for service in the NCS.
The screening for candidates under the Assistant Superintendent of Customs cadre is expected to conclude on Thursday, September 10, 2026, while the evaluation of candidates under the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will continue until September 19.
The NCS urged all candidates participating in the exercise to comply with the screening timetable, maintain discipline and follow instructions from officials at the various stages of the process.
