Command generates ₦19.4 billion in one month, intercepts 182,340 expired disposable vape products to safeguard public health

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a 35 per cent increase in revenue generation for June 2026, while intercepting a 40-foot container laden with expired disposable vape products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦809.7 million.
The development was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs VU Ogagbor, on Thursday.
The Acting Customs Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Bolaji Lukman Adigun, disclosed the achievements during a media briefing held at the Command headquarters, saying the Command remained committed to its statutory responsibilities of revenue generation, trade facilitation and enforcement. He noted that the briefing provided an opportunity to present the Command’s performance and highlight significant achievements recorded by the Enforcement Unit.
According to Adigun, the Command generated a total revenue of ₦19,404,925,103.53 in June 2026, compared with ₦14,363,621,664.35 realised during the corresponding period in June 2025.
He explained that the increase of ₦5,041,303,439.18, representing a 35 per cent growth, was driven by the dedication of officers and men of the Command, improved stakeholder compliance, enhanced trade facilitation and the deployment of intelligence-driven operational strategies.
The Acting Area Controller stressed that while the Command remained committed to facilitating legitimate trade and maximising revenue generation, it would continue to strengthen enforcement measures aimed at protecting the nation’s economy and safeguarding the wellbeing of Nigerians.
He revealed that officers of the Command, through diligent cargo examination, intercepted a 40-foot container with container number TIIU4739360 containing expired disposable vape products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦809,698,761.
Adigun disclosed that physical examination of the container revealed 18 pallets of disposable vape products. Each pallet contained 60 cartons, with some cartons containing 20 packs and others 40 packs, while each pack contained 10 pieces, bringing the total quantity to 484 cartons, equivalent to 182,340 pieces of disposable vape products.
He said further examination established that the products bore different expiry dates of 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, rendering them unfit for use and posing a potential risk to public health.
According to him, the Command has commenced the process of handing over the seized products to the appropriate government regulatory agency for further action and proper disposal in line with established procedures and its commitment to inter-agency collaboration.
Adigun described the interception as a demonstration of the vigilance, professionalism and commitment of officers and men of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command in enforcing extant laws and preventing unsafe and non-compliant goods from entering the Nigerian market.
He urged importers, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with all applicable import regulations. He also encouraged them to take advantage of the Nigeria Customs Service’s Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme and the Advance Ruling System, which he said were designed to promote trade facilitation, enhance compliance, provide greater predictability in customs processes and improve the ease of doing business.
The Acting Area Controller assured stakeholders that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-driven operations, effective risk management strategies and stringent cargo examination procedures to detect and intercept expired, falsely declared, prohibited and other non-compliant goods while contributing to national economic growth, public health and security.
He expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his visionary leadership and strategic guidance, which he said had continued to strengthen the operational efficiency of the Service.
Adigun also commended officers and men of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command for their dedication, resilience and commitment to duty, attributing the Command’s impressive revenue performance and enforcement successes to their professionalism and hard work.
He further appreciated licensed customs agents, terminal operators, importers, the compliant trading community and partner government agencies for their cooperation and support in strengthening collective efforts to protect the nation’s economy, secure the borders and safeguard public health.
The Acting Area Controller equally acknowledged members of the media for their professionalism, objective reportage and sustained partnership in keeping the public informed about the activities of the Nigeria Customs Service.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to consolidating its achievements in revenue generation, trade facilitation and enforcement while remaining steadfast in protecting the nation’s economy and improving the wellbeing of Nigerians.
